heater problems beyond crazy now. Ford no help.
heater problems beyond crazy now. Ford no help.
Today it is about 88 degrees outside. The ventilation in the 2019 2WD standard cab seemed hot, more appropriate to a rest stop hand dryer than ventilation. So I did some checking with a digital thermometer.
Outside air temp, per truck readout, 88F. Thermometer read 89.2 degrees in front of the truck stopped in the shade in the driveway. Quite decent agreement, actually.
The ventilation was set to minimum, the position beyond which the A/C turns on. Fan set to almost maximum.
Exit temperature from the driver's side air vent above the console was 113.7 F as measured by the same thermometer. Yes, one hundred thirteen point seven degrees F. That is so stupid that I cannot describe it better than "beyond crazy".
This vehicle does NOT throw the code "required" ("mentioned", anyhow) by Ford, and it does not produce any audible clicking, although I cannot be sure of that over regular road noise, the truck is a bit noisy and could easily drown out small clicking noises deep under the dash.
However, the dealer (Suntrup Ford) declined to fix it when it was taken in, saying that they called Ford about it, and it "had to" have either the code or the clicking. That's not how I believe the bulletin reads, but I don't get to choose the interpretation.
I looked for a Customer service email address at Ford corporate Customer Service, but cannot find one. It's apparently still the 1960's "call or write today".
This is insane, to my way of thinking. It's not a summer ventilation setting, it's a January heating setting.

Some of the same in this thread: https://www.ranger5g.com/forum/threa...-issues.10967/
I think I have read other threads about the HVAC system in 2019 and up Rangers as well
Ford techs would have way more information on this from the Ford tech support website than those of us DIYers would

If you're using one of those infrared thermometers that you point at things, you're reading the temperature of whatever solid object it's aimed at, not the air. If you aim it at the vent and the vent has been sitting in the sun, that's the temperature of the vent.
And Ford says it is not part of that SSM, because it does not have the symptoms listed. Other than blowing out scorching hot air, of course....... One possibly might think that was good enough.
Not the Service Managers, the techs that do the work are the ones that post every service issue so Ford can see if there is a pattern of issues showing up in each model
So the techs could not duplicate the issue when it was in for service?
I did read a post awhile back about the air plenum around the "blend door" changing shape slightly causing the blend door to get stuck in the full heat or full cold position, but it would clear itself when it either cool down or heated up
No noises just no temp control

They duplicated it. They documented a 10F difference between the vent air and the outside air.
BUT.... no codes and no clicking, so it was not the exact same issue as the SSM, and Ford would not authorize a fix.
I just found a 24F difference, but heard no clicking, dunno about codes. Got about 4500 miles to go on warranty, which means about two or three more trips.
I got there by turning it to full heat, and then back to no heat..... That should not happen... Oddly, I had the same issue a few times with a 2000 S10, but in that case, turning it up and back FIXED it.

you need to find a different ford dealer, and try again, and honestly good luck with ford customer care, they are over in the Philippines, only if they deem your case 'legit' do they send it over to the proper regional person, do i agree with that? absolutely not but as we say in the business, it is what it is
Naw, wasn't the dealer.
T'was Ferd......
BUT, now Ferd seem to have decided there really is a problem, and the dealer have the part on order. They will call me when it comes in. I guess it is like all the other stuff that you cannot get right now.

So far, 4 out of 5 parts seem to have come in, so still waiting for the call. Called 'em yesterday to check.
At least they had not disassembled it, so I could drive it while I am waiting. Still have 200 miles of warranty left.

And, now they have all the parts. So in 2 or 3 weeks it will get fixed, we assume. Seems to have taken 30 days for the parts to get here from Wuhan in china.
That would be good. I am not driving it at the moment, since I have only 75 miles left on the warranty, and I have no intention of having anyone suggest that it is "out of warranty now".

They have now had it since last Thursday. We'll see how it goes. They did say it "would take a few days".
They also need to look at the transmission shifting issue, both "kicking", and delaying in the middle of a shift.
And, I am getting "vehicle charging" as the reason it is not stopping at lights, even after driving a number of miles after a normal quick start, no extended cranking. Last time it did that it was in colder weather only, and they had to replace both the battery, and the battery control module. So they need to look at that.
Getting everything I can done before it's my turn to pay for repairs.

They still have it....
However, they seem to have gotten the heater system replaced OK, now they are cleaning up the other problems I brought to their attention....
1) Hard and delayed shifting, especially in cold weather.. Sometimes it takes 5 seconds to shift, or even more, during which time the engine is idling, and the truck his not powered. Not good if it happens in an intersection, which it has.
2) the "Vehicle charging" problem is back.... Had this last spring, where the vehicle could be driven 200 miles on the highway with no stops, and, at the end of that section of the trip, it would still stay on at a light, and showed the reason as "vehicle charging". Battery was at 11.5V. Fixed first with new battery, then another battery and a new "battery control module". Now it has returned, although did not take it for any 200 mile trips, since it only had 70 miles on the warranty left.
This process started the week before last Thanksgiving, and seems to have been so long due to the slow production of parts.

Dealer called me and told me that they were talking to Ford about the "vehicle charging" issue. So they still have it, and want to keep it a bit longer.
The shifting issue they state that they reprogrammed the transmission. That would be the second time that has been done.
