01 ranger randomly died.....

so my new to me 2001 ranger 4x4 seems to idle rough when it is started and idling in park, when idling in drive it seems to be fairly normal though. today i was driving up a hilly and twisty paved logging road doing about 30mph and the truck just died on me.....i was able to get it started again after two trys and back home about 12 miles. im thinking its a fuel system related issue? i also seem to have the problem with the fuel gauge described in this thread as well.

https://www.ranger-forums.com/f33/fu...ristics-32993/

could that have anything to do with it? just looking for opinions or suggestions on what may be the cause. thanks.

Well if it had died and not started again at all, I'd say it was the inertia switch under the dash. From the sound of it, it seems like it's something fuel pump/pickup related, but it's hard to be sure.

Clean the Idle Air Control valve. That may clear up your rough idle. Search for IAC CLEAN on here and you should find it.
