1995 to 1998 4.0 Eng & Auto Trans Swap ?
I just acquired a 1995 wrecked ( in rear). Explorer XLT, 4.0 Eng, Auto 4X4 Control Track, with a re-manufactured Engine & Trans from Jasper. The Engine & Trans only have 20K on them and are still under warranty. I would like to put the engine/trans into a 1998 Ranger 4 door extended cab, that has the same engine/trans configuration. Will the 1998 Ranger, ( With eighth digit X in VIN = 4.0 OHV Eng ), engine/trans wiring harnesses adapt to the 1995 Explorer engine/trans ? Any crossover harnesses that might work? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Dan.

Should be plug and play
You will most likely need to swap your 1998 upper and lower intake over to the 1995 4.0l engine, to match wiring connections
Transmission wiring is the same, 4R/5R 55E, same 16 pin plug
May need to put your 1998 DTR(neutral) switch onto the 1995 shift rod on trans to match connector but have a look first, could be the same unit
The 4R and 5R transmissions are the same, the "5th gear" was in the computer, it turns on OverDrive when still in 1st gear to get a lower ratio, actually used by off-roaders for years, lol, kinda like a "gear splitter" to get double ratios
The Explorer 4WD trans will bolt to the Ranger BW1354 transfer case
Forgot to add, different fuel system so have to swap intakes
Should be plug and play
