Next question on the 4.0 swap. Was getting ready to change seals on the intake manifold yesterday and when I looked inside the manifold the passages were covered in oil residue. Then with manifold on it side there was oil running out of it.
Do I clean it? if so with what and best way to do so?
Thanks
Dave
CarbThrottle spray cleaner, CRC or SuperTech brand from Walmart is cheapest. You may need to also clean the PCV hoses & replace the PCV valve, source of the oil?

Thanks thanks that's what I was thinking was carb cleaner. I am replacing the PCV valve and I have absolutely no idea where all the oil and everything is coming from let's hope the new engine doesn't do this

I think the crud is a combination of oil and soot. Oil is from the pcv system, goes from driver side valve cover to front left of intake manifold. Hot oily air from inside the valve cover gets sucked in and eventually becomes varnish on the intake manifold/ intake valves.
The soot comes from the EGR, enters right front of intake manifold. From what I've heard, if you clean it like new its going to be just as dirty as it is now in 10k miles. I wouldn't worry about it too much.
