My ranger has the exact same noise! And after doing tensioners nothing changed. Any input on wat you found would be much appreciated

A 7 year, 104 day...and 51 minute thread resurrection. BRAVO
Try pulsing the headlights ON and OFF and listen for any load related change.
Do the same with the air conditioning compressor.
The sound is quite deep and has a harshness...almost like it's 2 or 3 things making noise at he same time.

My suggestion would be to wait until engine is COLD, like after sitting overnight, stone cold
Then unhook fan belt from crank pulley, so no FAN or accessory noise, and no water pump!!
Start engine(battery light will stay on, no alternator either, lol)
It will be MUCH quieter in engine bay now, but you can only run the engine max 2 minutes with NO WATER PUMP, so shut it off as soon as you have isolated any noise, the sooner the better
If noise is gone then its from an accessory pulley, spin them
If noise is still there then its an internal noise from the engine and you should be able to localize it
Just as a heads up, while the tensioners were the cause of the timing chain issues on 4.0l SOHC engines they DID NOT MAKE THE NOISE
The tensioners have a strong spring inside that is only used at startup, once engine has oil pressure the springs were just there but oil pressure held chains tight
The problem was that the springs would break, and this allowed the long timing chains to bang on the chain guides on start up
Over time this banging would break the guide loose from its mounting bolt, and THIS caused the Rattle Noise
So rattle was not a loose tensioner, once you hear the rattle the guide is broken, damage done, nothing you change on the outside of the engine can make it go away
