cummins diesel vs. 4.0 fx4

this is what my friend has a dodge 2500 and he just put a cold air intake and a performance chip in it. he wanted to race me again(raced him before and beat him) all i have is my 4.0 and a k&n drop in so we got on the highway and from 50 after third honk we went at it next to each other till bout 90 then he started creepin away till 95 so i guess he beat me by a hood but not bad imo...

get him to spool up at a stop......then go. See who'll win this time. lol. Turbo lag sucks.

I couldn't believe it....but I stomped a co-workers '06 Duramax a few weeks ago. I gave the lil ranger all it had. Fyi.....'06 Max's have 650 ft/lbs. Once again, turbo lag sucks.

How'd you beat a Dmax? We raced one with a WRX that had some tuning and couldn't catch it, it sounded great with our turbo mocking his turbo and the tires about ready to tear off.

I don't have the foggiest idea. I know he was on it...cuz i gave it all the truck had. It was from a stop....a rolling stop. i think i must have beat him by turbo lag in the holeshot.

the 4.0 should beat any stock diesel. Hell it should beat them with a programmer and exhaulst and intake from the rolling stop.

Just be prepared to get your **** handed to you if they do a 4wd start while building boost before they take off.

im willing to bet if you went 1/4 mile or more you would have your *** handed to you on a silver platter

you have a 4.0ohv, not a 4.0sohc. You gotta have a built up diesel to keep up with 4.0sohc.

Dont you have a 92-93mph speed limiter?

really?

man thats funny
idk where this ****s comin from, but i would LOVE to see a ranger keep up with a "built up diesel" i mean keep up as in atleast stay within a few car lenghts...

even a diesel with minimun modifications
my friends 92 7.3 non turbo beats me.. but im running 35s and the OHV, im with him till i shift to 2nd

all the modified trucks here are quick trucks

I do a lot of diesel tuning. Well it is the main source of my business. We have tested Duramax's, Powerstrokes and Cummins equipped trucks of various years against my old Ranger (3.0L manual reg. cab) and against this new one I have with the Explorer Express Blower. Depending on the mods to either truck it could be a toss up based on shift points and tuning. I have come to find the best combination for power hands down in a diesel is the Bully Dog Triple dog with outlook monitor, aFe Stage II Intake and a bully dog or MBRP 5" Exhaust with 5" down pipe.

My little Ranger is quick in the 1/4 mile. I know and have slips to prove it. But my buddy's 2005 F-250 Diesel with 8" lift and 36" tires smokes my truck with the above mentioned modifications.

I have concluded the Cummins engines have the same problem my Ranger does. We lack 2 cylinders and mid range power. It takes FOREVER for my blower to boost. I had an 07 Cummins Mega Cab and did a few things to it and it had the same problem. From a rolling start or even coming out of a corner it was so slooooow to build boost I was being passed by Yugo's. These trucks are made for starts from dead stops with boost built up to move the heavy truck.

My Ranger is good at only one thing: 1/4-mile runs as are many of these diesels. They get killed from rolling starts.

My buddy has an 06 Duramax with an Edge Racing dash programmer, 4'' monster exhaust and a AEM Brute Force air intake. My friend and I waxed him with my 99 Firebird 3.8L with Flowmaster exhaust, K&n filter and performance air lid. He got beat from the start and at 65mph. Course running down the interstate at 130 wasn't the smartest idea.

This is about like the ranger vs SRT-10. I believe that if the dodge caught traction the would have waxed.

im still calling BS

the turbo doesnt take long to spool and like previously stated if the truck launched in 4wd with the turbo spooled there would be nothing but a ranger left behind in a cloud of black smoke.

everyone who's raced a diesel, how far did you go before letting off?

hell i had a duramax chase me down one time in my car, those diesels kick butt at higher speeds. I whomped it from a start but i wasnt pulling ahead as fast as I wouldve thought. Turbo lag isnt as bad as some of yall think.

That Ranger was/is highly modified. That is not a V6 in that truck. And that SRT-10 crew cab is a joke anyway.

Turbo diesel trucks will out run any ranger ive seen...

The duramax is a very fast truck, with a tuner and exhaust.. i saw one run 12.9 at the track when i ran my bike...

Ive seen dodge diesels run 13.5 with propane injection...

No way would a ranger win against a built diesel.. turbo lag doesnt take that long...

I'm calling BS on the whole thing. I have a 4.0 SOHC on 32's and I get the launch on a diesel. Soon as that turbo spools, which takes all but a half a second, they'll waste me. I ran even with a Duramax once... but it's also a Duramax...
