Dumped my exhaust

I just got done dumping my exhaust before the axle and wanted to put my opinion out there for other 4.0L owners who are thinking of doing this. Don't do it. Again, this is my opinion. Performance wise, it did give it a little more get up and go. But, I am now kicking myself in the *** for cutting up a perfectly good sounding exhaust. I'm running a Thrush welded muffler through the stock 2" pipes which before, gave a real nice low tone. That's all gone now. Putting it back to how it was before anyone else hears it asap. Backpressure is not the worst thing in the world.

lol I didn't realize that exhaust can be dumb, but reading this it looks like you were right on track lol

Try throwing on a flow super 44 before putting a pipe on it. They sound a hell of alot better than the cheap Thrush

I don't get exhaust dumping. Just seems like a cheap way to do an exhaust. Well I did run with no muffler for a year so I guess that is worse. LOL

I am going to do it just because A) your right it is cheap, B) it looks cleaner to me and C) it keeps the tail pipe out of the way when wheeling. I have already crushed the tip of mine.

I have never had a problem with my tailpipe being hit while offroading and it exits at the stock location. The leaf pack does hit it a bit during full droop but its minor.

Only reason mine is dumped right now is because I didn't have the money to have a place run the pipes. Cheap and easy. The drone is terrible though, I'll probably get pipes ran within the next 2 weeks.

I have a dumped Magnaflow, and it's not that bad.

I can't hear it much the highway, other than when it downshifts.

It's got a good mellow rumble at idle, sounds great going through the gears, but it's not loud at cruising speed.

I just don't like the way tail pipes look on a truck, especially duals, one always hangs different than the other.

Dumped = slightly less power, slightly lower mpgs, alot louder in cab and quieter outside cab.

Tailpiped = slightly more power, slightly better mpgs, alot quieter in cab and louder outside cab.

Get a good muffler...like a Flow44. Flow44 on a 4.0L SOHC = KILLER AWESOMENESS!

That's all based on my 6 differnet exhaust setups.

I bought my 4.0 ranger dumped. Drove to a place hour and a half away week I got it. By the time I got home, had the worst headache ever, and I don't get headaches.

I love flowfaster's. Ran them on my last three F-150's with duals. I just didn't see the need to throw another $400 into exhaust for this truck, so I went the cheap route. It's a cheap muffler, but it did have the sound I liked, just not when it was dumped. I don't do enough offroading(legally) to worry about ripping my pipe off, I just wanted to see what it sounded like, and I'm not a fan of it. Nothing against anyone who runs theirs this way, just not for me.

i just got a flowmaster delta 40 series put on my ranger, awesome sounding muffler, helps fight the drone of v6's. i had just unbolted the exhaust right at the cat's and oh god it was horrible and it caused my tranny to not shift properly. now i have a good muffler with great sound, i just have to come up with enough money to get the rest of the cat back system.
