Engine swap help
Engine swap help
Hi, I have a 98 4.0 0hv (my BF's). He took out the engine and put in an engine out of a 98 mazda B2000. It is a 4.0 ohv also. Everything was fine until camshaft synchronizer did not match. So he looked up the number on the part and it is for a 99. My question is can he swap these 2 engines and if so how does he make that part work? He is getting a p0340 code.
Ford/Mazda switched all 4.0ls to VR Cam sensors in 1999, its 2 wire
1998 and older used Hall Effect Cam sensors, 3 wire
The computer software is different for VR and hall effect sensors so you have to use the sensor the Computer is programmed for, its NOT a wiring thing, so no working around by messing with the wires, the signal from the sensors is different
The cam sensor and it's synchro tower of any years fits any year 4.0l OHV, 1990-2000
So you can swap over the 1999 cam sensor/synchro to the 1998 engine, or get a new 1999 cam sensor/synchro
