HELP put a 3pin syncro 4.0l engine 2 pin truck.
i have a 1999 ford ranger 4x4 with a 4.0l. 5spd. had to replace the engine. its a spare truck so didnt want to install a new engine so i got one from the local salvage yard. they did not ask me what pin syncro for cam sensor and i didnt know there was a difference. well i installed engine and found out i have a 3pin engine and a 2 pin truck. is it possible to make the 3 pin engine work in a 2 pin truck? thought i could just buy a 2 pin syncro and replace the 3 pin. nope the 3 pin is half the length of 2 pin syncro.

Engine is not the problem, 3 wire is Hall Effect Sensor(DC 5 volt square wave), 2 wire is Variable Reluctance sensor(AC volt sine wave)
So there is no "wiring conversion" for it, you have to use the Cam sensor your computer will "understand", so its computer year based not engine year based
But you can swap the whole synchro unit from one 4.0l OHV engine to the other 4.0l OHV, the lower part is the same for all 4.0l OHV engines
So take the 2 wire synchro out of your '99 engine and put it in the older engine
And they do need to be timed to the engine
'99 was first year of the 2 wire Cam sensor, '98 and older used 3 wire, and 4.0l OHV was last used in 2000 so only 2 years had the 2 wire setup, so no reason not to get an older engine for a good price, brand new 1999 synchro with sensor is $36 seen here: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/ENGINE-CAMSHA...JTFYQ2&vxp=mtr
