Got a 2004 4.0L. Few questions

Hey fokes, I just got myself a 2004 4.0L Extended cab Ranger and man do I love it. It has alot of power and I plan on doing some upgrading but need some help!

First off I cant find any headers for the 04+ years, where can I find some?

Does K&N make the best intake for these trucks (power gain wise)?

How big are the speakers in this truck? There are two in the front doors and one in the back doors, what sizes are these?

I noticed some people are using power programers to tune these trucks, where are you buying these from?

Also anyone know the stock 0-60 time on these trucks? Any info would be great, I dont really know much about these trucks but test drove one and loved it. Raced my buddy in his Jetta 2.0L (not stock) and smashed him so they must have pretty good power.

Thanks in advanced guys! Glad I found a Ranger forum!

JBA makes headers for the 4.0. as far as intakes i don't know which gives the best performace but the choices are limited to k&n, mac, kkm (i have this one) and i think afe makes one. the speaker sizes are 5x7 but 6x8's will fit. most people are using bama chips programmers they can be bought from bama chips (www.bamachips.com) or one of the members here sells them through his website www.jusnesmodified.com (along with a lot of other ranger products) not sure about the 0-60 times but some one around here will know.

Will 6x8's fit without any modifications? Also, any idea where to order the headers from? I still cant find anything past 03!

Thanks for your post!

The JBA headers listed on their site (JBA) are good if you have the EGR on the drivers side 00-05, so you should be good to go. Take a look at this site: www.crutchfield.com you can usually find a lot of info for stereo products and speakers, etc for your vehicle there.

email JBA about the headers to make sure they fit, but they should...i dont think any ranger 4.0 has an EGR off the header since 03. If you dont have an EGR its no big deal cause you can cap the outlet off the headers. I think JBA even makes the headers without the EGR.

The only real difference between intakes for our engines is price...they dont even really give crazy perfomance. They smooth out acceleration and make the engine more responsive, top end gains a little but not really noticeable. MPG take a hit in the kits with lesser heat shields (more hot air getting sucked into the engine). Bottom line is if you can find one for fairly cheap then get it...i wouldnt have paid full price for my FIPK2 (K&N).

6x8's fit fine...no modification.

Bamachips will make the biggest performance difference when running the 93/91 octance programs. Couple it with an intake and catback exhaust (recommend Borla duals).

my stock 0-60 time was accurately clocked at 7.2 seconds at sea level and ~55F. 1/4mi stock is 15.6s at sea level.

these engines are fairly potent...by no means a race car without major mods but it can be a lot of fun non-the-less. A few light mods and these engines will tear up on most stock V8's and a lot of modded imports. Start playing with boost and nitrous and these trucks will fly.

Thanks for your post!

Stock speakers are 6x8's. 99% of all 5x7's and 6x8's are interchangable.
