Haing trouble with RX and TX wiring....
I have a 2001 ford Explorer 4.0l 4x4. I'am rewiring the motor harness on the 2001 ford explorer to have a 2003 ford ranger PCM. Because i dont want to do the full wiring swip in the cab or rest under the hood. So i did a swip on the Explorer to a manua from a Auto transmission. I have 50% of the wiring done. Then ran into a problem on the 2003 ford Ranger wiring diagram for the PCM pinout on the #17 is GY/OG wiring is for "RX,signal" and the #18 is WH/LG wiring is for "TX, signal".
Now my 2001 ford Explorer motor wiring harness dosen't have the #17 not in use. But the #18 pinout dose have one. But not the WH/LG but it does have a BK/WH wire thou.
I dont know what to do since am using the 2003 ranger PCM and Not the 2001 ford Explorer PCM.
I added a Attchment to My PCM Diagram am using on the 2001 ford explorer. The yellow boxs # 17, 18 is the one am having trouble with. The red boxs is the wiring i have remove for the Auto transmission wiring am not using
and the Green boxs is for the wiring am added to the Manual transmission to the PCM.

PCM Pins 17 and 18 are for the PATS anti-theft system in 2003 Ranger, these 2 wires would come from the transceiver(antenna loop around ignition key slot)
2001 Explorer most likely used a separate PATS module(above glove box) which would be connected to the transceiver, then PATS module connected to the 2001 PCM on pins 15 and 16
In 2003 Ranger the PATS is INSIDE the PCM
So you just need to add those 2 wires between transceiver and PCM
Also included a 2000 Ranger diagram with separate PATS module, not sure if explorer wiring colors are the same but you will get the general idea of where to get those 2 wires
Since the transceiver was also powered by the PATS module you would also need to re-wire for that, a 12v key on and ground wire
You also need to re-wire anti-theft light to dash, PCM pin 30 on 2003 ranger, as this light would be currently wired to pin 8 of PATS module
Do you "need" the theft light, no, but if there is a problem with PATS the theft light will flash a 2 digit CODE number IDing the problem, so.................
You can access all the wiring at the PATS module above glove box, unhook battery for at least 15min before removing airbag

So you are saying. I need to add them 2 wires GY/OG and WH/LG from the Black plug from the motor/ PCM to straight into the cab to the transceiver behind the dash right?
But the plug in the 2001 have a BK/WH wire in pin 13 where the WH/LG suppose to go tho.

I can't see your posted diagram, won't open on my computer, needs to be pdf format, so I am assuming its the 2001 104-wire PCM plug
The transceiver is in the steering column, on the key slot, it has 4 wires, 12v/gnd, and a TX and RX
Transceivers 4 wires are currently wired to the PATS module above glove box in a 2001 explorer............I think, its listed as Type B PATS
So the 5 wires you need are there, above glove box, 4 for transceiver and 1 for theft light
So thats where I would go to re-wire them as needed

Black/white wire in 18 now is most likely just a ground wire, test it
That diagram says there SHOULD BE wires in 17 and 18, so something is fishy
But the actual harness in the 2001 Explorer you are working on doesn't have wires there, well in 17 no wire
And it shouldn't in a 2001 Explorer with separate PATS module, 17 and 18 were used for internal PATS module(built in to computer)

I know am using the 2001 Explorer wiring harness. i just remove the Auto transmission wiring and add the Manual transmission wiring to it and setting the wiring harness up for the 2003 Rager PCM.
Everything is the right coloers. But the #17 and #18 is different. There is nothing in pin 17 their is a BK/WH wire in the pin 18 pin.
So thats the spot i dont know what to do and the rest of the wiring harness that run to the fuse box and in the cab. It doesn't have them wirings either it only have the BK/WH wire in pin 13.

Pin 13 should be a purple wire, violet, on either year, so that's very odd
13, 15 and 16 are for the OBD2 reader plug in, that was the same from 1995 to 2003 on any Ford computer
17 and 18 were only used for internal PATS module, starting in 2001 in Rangers and 2002 in Explorers
So you need to add those wires to the 2001 connector for use with a 2003 PCM
Also a pin 30 wire for the Theft Light
You can access the wires you need to connect to pins 17 and 18(and 30) above the glove box at the 2001's PATS module
You have the diagrams
You will need to remove the clam shell on steering column to access the Plug in for the transceiver to get the wire colors if they don't match the colors in 2000 diagram
The transceiver 4 wire plug will have a 1 and then at the other end a 4, so pins 1 thru 4
1 is key on 12v, 2 is ground
3 is TX
4 is RX
You could high jack the wiring there if you want, you still need to add 12v key on and ground, as that comes from PATS module
Or once you have the colors of the wires for all 4 you can high jack the wires at the PATS module, as that has key on 12v and ground already there, and the Theft Light wire as well

The wire at the PCM is numbered, 1 thru 6 for a V6, pins 73, 74, 75 and then 99, 100, 101, as shown in your diagram
Cylinder numbers are
3 6
2 5
1 4
Front
So pin 73 wire goes to injector for cylinder #5
They are the same in pretty much all ford computers 1995 - 2006, in 2007 Ford switch to a 3 connector computer, at least in Ranger they did

Ok thank you RonD. I'm working on the wiring harness right now and number each wire on which pin they got to. I ran into the Injector wiring and I was not sure. I just wanted to make sure before i did it.
I realy have not decided what to do on the plug to cut the wiring oremove the pin and add the new pin to the old harness for the 2003 PCM.
