Knocking

I have a 01 Ranger that has had the normal rattling issue with the timing chain guide. Had that fixed. Not too long after it started knocking on the bottom of the motor. Cold or hot it knocks. Louder towards the back of motor. Took it back to the shop and they couldnt tell me exactly what it is. The knocking accelerates with the engine acceleration. I'm leaning towards maybe a rod. It's getting ready to turn over 130K. Maybe time for a swap?

Mine does that too, its really annoying.. But I just ignore it now lol... Have u tried a thicker motor oil? like a 10w40.. Mine seem to quiet down a bit when the oil is new.

I've just used the 5w, what it calls for. I will have to try that. Although I was wanting to fix the problem instead of hiding it. Gonna take it to the dealer and have them listen to it and maybe give me a ballpark figure. I better go ahead and grease up before I leave the house, cause I know they will stick it to you dry.
