Looking for some guidance, I have a 3.0 2000 ranger 4wd and a 4.0 2006 V6 mustang. I may need to replace the engine in my ranger and was wondering if a 2006 mustang 4.0 SOHC engine would work. What would I need to do to make it happen and what kind of modification will need to be done. They are both automatic transmission vehicles.

 

Likely need to remove at least these items from the donor vehicle & swap into the 2000 Ranger:
* V6~4.0L~SOHC Engine
* 5r55? Tranny
* Computer\PCM
* InstrumentCluster
* WiringHarness
* ...?
Not a simple Plug&Play of just the engine.

You would be much better off to do a V8(302, 5.0l ohv) swap into the 2000 Ranger, same work as the 4.0l SOHC swap but much better results
OR
Just swap in a working 3.0l into the 2000 Ranger and sell it to get a 2001-2011 4.0l SOHC Ranger

In any case sell the Mustang 4.0l SOHC to pay for repairs/work on the 3.0l Ranger
