97 4.0 oil leak

Morning everyone, I have a 97 4.0 ranger that leaks oil on first start up but then stops leaking after about a minute. It looks like it’s coming from somewhere above the oil filter. It’s on the passenger side closest to the firewall. It’s not leaking from the filter and I can’t get a good view from the top or bottom without having to take some parts off. I was wondering if anyone has had this same problem or would have any ideas of where it’s leaking from to cause it to stop after it’s idled for about a minute. Thank you!

You can most definitely try an engine oil leak treatment. I believe Lucas oil may work for you. It couldn't hurt. Just do some research and see what resonates with you....

Upon Further, it looks like Lucas Oil Stop Leak is pretty good, and has good reviews.... Research the directions first. You may have to do an oil change then add the Lucas in with the new oil.

Hi Azboy11,

if it looks like it's coming from above the oil filter area check the valve cover on that side and also the oil filter adapter that holds the oil filter as that has seals which can leak after time.
