Truck noises

Okay. This morning I started up my truck, and about 1 Minute later, a noise came from under my truck. It sounded like my heat pan was loose, or something. It was a rattling sound. It only does it when I sit and Idle. Can anyone help me out please?

Also, my truck makes a ticking noise when I accelerate, but not when I accelerate hard. You can definetly hear it when you are accelerating up a hill.

Thanks Guys

As for the rattle, I would wait till the truck is mostly cooled down then crawl under her and try wiggling anything and everything. Look for tight clearances between parts too, engine vibrations could be making non-loose parts rattle against each other.
EDIT: also be sure that you didnt leave any tools/bolts, like a socket bit, in the engine bay that could have fallen down into a corner of the engine bay.

As for the ticking noise under acceleration...could be pinging, but theres really not enough info to diagnose these over the internet.

Okay. I was told that it could be my timing belt, so I will try replacing that. All in all though, this is my first Ranger, and I love it a lot.

Try getting a can of Sea-Foam or BG44K. That might resolve your pinging noise.

If yours is a '98-'00 OHV, then what you might be hearing at idle is the infamous "marbling" noise.

The rattling first take a look at the heat shield on the cat convertor. Happened on mine whenever it would sit and idle in drive or when I was in reverse.
The ticking follow everyone elses advice on here.

It's probably a loose heat shield. My uncle's Civic does the same thing at idle.
