Valves Clacking

Hi, I have a 2001 Mazda B4000 4X4 SE V6 SOHC and lately I've noticed when I'm accelerating I hear the valves clacking. I was wondering if anyone has this problem or maybe point me in the right direction to the fix. I use Ethanol 89 I wonder if this would cause the problem? Let me know.

well as far as i know the only trucks able to burn Ethanol are the 3.0 flex fuel engines and if you have a 40 which it seems you do then thats the problem... try to run 87 octane gas and it should run better

I'm sure someone that knows will chime in, but that sounds like the infamous timing chain rattle everybody seems to have on the SOHC 4.0.. now if it was an OHV you would have a nice piston slap making it sound like a small diesel like I'v got...

Possible cam chain tensioner noise - very common on 2001~2002. When does it occur? What RPM? Warm or cold engine?

The fuel you are using sounds like "gasohol" which is usually 90% gasoline, 10% ethanol. It is OK to use but I would rather burn pure gasoline since it delivers more energy per gallon and that means better fuel economy.

I seem to notice the noise more when the engine is cool and I'm stepping on the gas from a stop so probably low end.

Has there been a recall for the timing chain noise. I have had the truck for a year. I full warranty so I'll get after them for that.

I've got this noise too, upon acceleration mainly, but starting to get louder when at idle. Is this the cam chain tensioner noise? I've got a '01 Ranger Edge 4.0 V6 4X4.... I'm taking my truck in for a few minor electrical things before the extended warranty expires in a month or so, and would like to be VERY specific in what needs to be replaced, if possible!

Thanks!
