Welllllll.....this sucks.

I just found out, my trucks speed limiter kicks on at 92 mph...
Found out racing a V6 mustang...(don't worry I beat him anyway)
so do I need to get a chip to disable it?

get yourself an SCT XCalibrator 2 from Doug at Bama Chips ( www.bamachips.com )......it will get rid of the speed and rev limiter......and worth the money as far as power mods.....

cool, yeah I rarely like to go that fast, but I was wondering does that tuner get you better mileage as well?

Better mpg, more power, no limiters (rev or speed), etc etc.. best $400 you can spend on the truck

I'd be happy if my truck went to 100 because I don't want to handle it beyond there.

if it had no rev limiter, the engine would go into the red zone, over-rev and blow. so there is no way it will get rid of the rev limiter. delay it a few hundred RPMs maybe, but in no way could it get rid of it.

yeah, taking it off would probably be a little too much, not worth it overall. what is the factory rev set at?

My 06 cuts fuel at 6200rpms and hits the speed limiter at 99mph.

These motors are short stroke. They'll take some rpms w/o a problem. I'd suggest not going more than 6500 though. Besides the most effective shift points are not that high anyway. There just isn't much point in reving a stock motor that high.

I found that out too, that my truck bottoms out at 92 or so, trying to get to an accident scene w/FD.

How much did it improve your MPG, having the chip?

4wd trucks aren't meant to be driven that fast. There are a LOT of moving parts underneath your truck and particularly with the 4.10 axle ratios you've got, they're likely spinning VERY fast. Fast enough that there's a good chance of something breaking. The speed limiter is there for a reason: to keep your *** on the road with the drivetrain intact. There's no sense in messing with it.
