06 Ranger 3.0 to V8 swap.

Hey, i havent been on here in forever, but ive put up with this sad excuse of a motor for as long as i feel i can. So! now its time to do the swap. Im leaning towards a 4.6 out of a new stang, or posibly even a 5.4. What do i need to do in total for the swap? and what other advise can ya dish my way. ill have pictures of my truck on here soon.

Thanks
Dusty

You good at custom making stuff and doing motor swaps and stuff? Are you serious about doing this or is it just another dream thread?

Keep watching Zabeard's thread on his 5.4 swap in his ranger. I would just do a 5.0 from an explorer. A little bit easier on bolting it up and you can find a decent engine for like $500 and sometimes you can get a deal on both a tranny and engine. Rebuild the engine and trans right you will have a very strong power plant for your ranger.

Check your local smog laws for legality. You can do it but you just have to fab and cut. No it won't just slide in because the Explorers got wider when they switched over to the 4.6.

Edit: I think you either have to lose or seriously cut the blower box to get the engine in.

Bad Idea on that one my friend. He won't be able to from a legal stand point and a wiring job from hell to boot. 2001 engine in a 2006 Ranger, will not pass swap laws. It has to be either the same year or newer or a carbed engine. 2001 is the last year the good old 5.0 rolled off the production line for the explorer and the engine harness is NOT compatible with an 02 chassis harness much less a 2006. But he can do the swap with that engine if he uses 2006 or newer exhaust equip, good luck with that. And as far as a carbed motor goes, if he has to have an annual inspection sticker like I do it won't pass the moment they see a carbed motor.

I dont see why you guys with such new trucks, let alone a 4.0 want to swap to a 5.0 or other V8 so bad. If I had a newer 4.0 right now I would have that and a S/C and other work over my 5.0 swap. Sound is about the only good thing out of it. Otherwise you can make plenty of power out of your 4.0's. And you dont need to worry bout all this being legal crap

to tell you the truth I wish i would have just swapped in a 4.0, and put every bolt on into it. for the time and money I spent. The days of these "dream" swaps people keep having are pretty much over when you start buying such new cars. needs to be a 99 or older ranger to be worth any kind of 50 states legal truck with some hair left on yer head.

I wanted a v8 swap cause I spun a rod bearing in my 4.0L. I didn't want to swap in the same motor if I didn't have too. And supercharging the 4.0 is pretty expensive from what I found so far...?

How hard would it be to put a carbed 5.0 in my 06 with an auto tranny. I just wanna figure out what I'm getting into before I start buying anything.
