i must be blind (4.6 swap info)
i did a search and couldn't find a thread for a 4.6 swap. i have some extra time on my hands, a 2004 ranger 2.3, and a complete donor Mustang GT to work from.
can i get a link to a how-to site or thread breaking this down for me? i know it'll be an endeavor, even with a complete car to work from, but realistically how much could this end up costing me in extra parts and professional labor? thanks.

I really havent seen the 4.6 in Rangers I know its been done but I heard you have to cut out alot more of the engine bay or somthing. Well anyways good luck with the swap and remember take lots of pictures! I will look around for a how to for you!
Professional labor? WAAAAAAY too much. You'd be better off buying another car for the price it'd cost you to swap that 4.6L in there. It's a modular engine and is REALLY big. if you could do it yourself, it could work, I think it has been done before. But if you're paying $60-100 per hour, there's no way you could get a good deal off of that. your best bet would be to go with a 302 if you want a V8.
the 4.6 is ALMOST impossible to swap into a Ranger......the 4.6 is WAY too wide for a Ranger.....if you are doing a v8 swap it would have to be a small small block v8....like a 302(5.0), a 289, or a SB 351.....
GREGR on Ranger Power Sports has a 4.6 in a 98 Ranger which has basically the same engine compartment as your 2004. Because of the physical size of the 4.6, the fit is very tight. He had to delete the A/C.

Greg's truck used a DOHC 4.6L which is worst case, but even if your is a SOHC, you will still have significant issue. Giving up A/C really isn't worth it to me.
Do a 5.0L explorer swap and save yourself alot of money, time, and headaches.
If you really want a 4.6L, just get an F150.

Tire,
You're biggest problem is trying to put a '98 engine into a '04 Ranger in southern California. You won't pass emissions. Now, if the truck is for off road only and you really want to do this, pm me and I'll let you know what to expect.
