Wiring a switch onto my Remote Wire
Wiring a switch onto my Remote Wire
Hey all,
I want to wire in a switch to turn my amp on and off. I did a search and found that I need to wire my switch in to my remote wire.
I'm not at home so I can't check. I've got a rocker switch with an LED, it has 3 prongs. How do I do this? (Yes, I am a newb at wiring stuff :( )
I think one prong is ground, and then I cut the remote wire and connect one end to the section that leads to the head unit and the other wire goes to the amp?
Thanks,
Frank

So what do I connect to the third prong to light up the LED?
Also, I was thinking of putting it where the cigarette lighter goes (I don't smoke) and then I wouldn't have to cut anything or run a wire to a strange spot.

you have three connects, power, ground, and feed. one is power in, the other is power out to the device, and the third is a ground that will finish the circuit to illuminate the bulb. it will get it's power from the power out side when the switch it turned on.
No. Take your remote wire , cut it and add the terminal crimps or spades whatever you are using, look for the 12 v label and attach the wire from the radio side. The other wire you just made goes to the side with the label that would be out or to accessory. The ground wire would go to the one with the "arrow " pointing down. Or it will be labeled with G.
I decided that the LED was a distraction, so I took the ground off. Switch works perfectly. I took out the cigarette lighter, and put the switch in its place.
PS: Installing the amp and sub went perfectly.
