Overriding automatic transmission in gear sensing
Before I started I found somewhere online that the automatic transmission computer needed an override to be able to rev beyond 3000 rpm when installed in a standard transmission truck. I need that information again and not sure where to find it

You need a manual trans PCM for a manual trans Ranger, and an automatic trans PCM for an automatic vehicle, the BCM, in those years, was the GEM module and no need to change it
The wiring harnesses are different as well after 2001 for manual and automatic
No Override, the automatic and manual PCMs both have a REV limiter if transmission is in "neutral/park"
With an automatic that is on the DTR(transmission range) sensor
On a manual it on the clutch pedal switch, i.e. clutch pedal down = "neutral", clutch pedal up = "in gear"
As for the wiring you would need to find the diagrams for DTR and Clutch switch, for the specific years

In 2004 the BCM was changed from GEM(1995-2003) to SJB(smart junction box)(2004-2011) and moved from behind the radio(GEM) to passenger side kick panel(SJB)
Obviously all the cab wiring was changed in 2004 as the SJB was also the fuse box which was on drivers side of cab up thru 2003
Also in 2004, and up, the instrument cluster changed to digital, HEC, and it was "married" to the PCM at the factory, so people could no longer swap in lower mile odometers, but this also means the PCM will not work without key on "handshake" with its original HEC cluster
Ford Shops can "re-marry" HECs and PCMs if either fails, maybe some other PCM programmers, never looked
Quite a few extra issues when you get to 2004 and up Rangers as far as swapping parts around
