2000 xlt 4x4 ranger shifting problems
Im having problems down shifting and from 2-3. It is only happening when in drive. I walked it up (1,2,d) and it shifted properly. I have no problems going in reverse. Also I turned the overdrive off and it shifted fine cycling all gears. I believe it may be an electrical problem but I may be wrong. Has anyone had the same problem or a similar problem? Any advice is greatly appreciated.
I know I'm saying that my transmission is slipping anytime it downshifts and 2-3 is the only time it slips when upshifting
Not an electrical issue unless the OD light has ever been flashing, that means there is a transmission code set and if its a "circuit" code then its an electrical issue
The solenoids that do the shifting are monitored by the computer, so if one is not passing voltage then it would set a code for that and flash the OD light
2-3 slip is a known issue with the 4R and 5R automatics, good read here: https://atracom.blob.core.windows.ne.../2003_5_50.pdf
The 4R44E/4R55E and 5R44E/5R55E are the same transmissions internally, just FYI, so what applies to one applies to ALL
If you do any work on the valve body look at adding a "shift kit", very popular upgrade
