2007 4.0 4wd automatic trans swap with 2004

Hello. I'm looking at getting a 2007 4.0 automatic 4wd and it needs a new transmission. Can I use a trans from a 2004 with a 4.0 4wd?

I've been reading up but want to be certain. Will there be issues with the sensors, shafts, or anything else?

Thanks in advance for any useful input.

Yes, it will fit and plug in fine, but any used automatic is a roll of the dice, lol

2001 - 2011 4.0l 4WDs all used the same transmission, a 5R55E, and same wiring
So plug and play

From a 2WD won't work, or from a 3.0l or 2.3l won't work

Thanks for the reply Ron.

Replacement transmission is from a 2004 FX4 with 125,000 miles and a rotted frame. I plan to replace fluid and filter. Any other recommendations?

Sounds good

New torque converter?

There is a 16 pin plug in on drivers side of trans for the solenoids and sensors inside the trans

Might be good to test these before installation

OHM Meter and a few minutes of time just to see if there is any issues

The 2 external sensors(ISS and OSS) are easy to swap if they have an issue

Thank you again.

I have the torque converter that came with the transmission, should I get a new one?

That's a judgment call, the used one may be fine for another 125k miles, no crystal ball here, lol, could certainly use one

Thanks again Ron for your help!

Transmission is in. I had to swallow my pride and have a transmission shop near me do the work. They said it was pretty much plug and play. They did transfer the shift lever from the original to the replacement, not sure if that was necessary or just easier for the install.

So far so good, I've only had a chance to drive a few miles but it shifts........
