Swapping a 3.0 into a 4.0

hi there! I just joined. I have two ford rangers that im planning on mashing together. One is a 4.0 sohc 4x4 auto ranger. And the other is a 3.0 stick 2wd ranger. The reason I wanna swap the 3.0 into the 4.0 one is because the 3.0 is really new. I understand I'd need to swap both the motor and trans because the auto trans in the 4.0 won't bolt to the 3.0. now my main question is, if It is possible to swap the 3.0 and the stick 2wd into the ranger that has the 4.0, and if I can convert that stick 2wd to 4wd. I cannot use the body of the one with the 3.0 on it mainly due to the fact of the prior owner running into a wall with it. Thank you guys! Both rangers are 2002 models I believe, or one is an 01 and the other is an 02. Hopefully I can get the ball rolling on this because I want a driving ranger very badly.

Welcome to the forum

Not a good swap, well any STOCK engine size change in not a good swap
Reason being is you can just sell both trucks and buy a factory 3.0l Ranger in 2wd or 4wd, and it would be cheaper than doing the swap

Or sell the mint 3.0l and trans and use that money to rebuild the 4.0l SOHC

But if you are determined
Yes, you need 3.0l engine(motor mounts) and trans, no can't convert 2WD trans to 4WD trans unless you have the parts from a 4wd trans to swap over, and you don't, auto is not the same as manual 4wd parts
You need to change the output shaft and get a 4WD tail shaft housing, but it can be done
If not you will need a 2001-2011 3.0l 4wd manual trans, M5OD-R1(M5R1) 4WD
All Rangers since 1993 have used the M5R1 manual transmission, M5R1 a Model number, but each only fits one specific engine and came in 2WD or 4WD versions

Also need the 3.0l computer and engine wiring harness of course, and keys for 3.0l PATS, swap ignition switch cylinders
Also swap steering columns to get rid of auto shifter
Swap in the clutch pedal assembly with master and shifter floor plate
Also exhaust, but just the "Y" pipe, I think
You may need to swap radiators as well, can't remember if the in and out match

Its a bit of work, not just a weekend project
