I already have it out. Inspected the board and can't see any obvious defects. I just don't see where this is 150.00 item. big rip off if you ask me. But I guess I will order one. The local junkyard wants 130.00, so I think I'll just buy new. correction, I just ordered a used from ebay. can save 100.00 so Ill take the chance.

Ron, got the replacement module today and put it in. Same problem. Relays clicking but no shifting. I pulled the motor again to tear it apart. The round piece that has the limit switches can not be opened up. It appears that the plastic halves have been pressed or welded together. In fact I broke all 3 torx screws off disassembling it. They were all rusted. So now I will be ordering a motor.

I had to break the plastic to get this apart but this is what I found. After cleaning the lands and raising the contacts I snapped it back together. Then had to drill and tap where the 3 broke screws were and reassembled it. Installed and lo and behold the thing is working. Better than it ever has. I have a new motor on order and will change it when it comes in.

Good work, never ran into that issue with the cap
Still a little perplexed about the 4WD lights???
They should have flashed when you tried to shift into 4WD if the shift motor didn't move into correct position, or the 4high light should have come on if it did
But glad its working again
Remember to shift it into 4h and then 4l once a month, to keep motors brushes and rotor clean and the contacts clean, just sitting in the driveway is fine
Disuse is what kills these motors not wear and tear

2010 XLT 4.0. 4H works but 4L does not
hey guys
First time here. Fourm looks cool and helpful. I have a ford ranger 2010 xlt 4.0.
I tested out my 4x4 last night to make sure its still working for winter. Went into 4H with no issues. Drove around just fine. Turning left and right i get resistance and jerking. On 4L I get little movement at all. Feels like all 4 tires are bouncing and struggling to rotate.
Should i look into a new differential? New 4x4CM or new switch for differential.
Thanks for the help. .

You should start your own thread, its FREE, lol
4low means high ratio to drive wheels so very little speed and on dry pavement very jerky
Try it on gravel or any loose surface
Any issue with 4low would be in the transfer case, the planetary gear set, that's the only difference between 4high and 4low in the drive train
