Hello all, 1999 ranger, 3.0L M5R1OD 150K OE trans new clutch 30K ago. When I bang from 1st to 2nd or 3rd to 4th it's easy to shift but slow shifting makes it harder to slot into gear, I'm guessing the shift forks have had a long life and beyond that my shifter bushings are probably shot. Still has some synchros left but 2nd and 3rd are notchy
Has anyone had success with a Hurst shifter bringing some life back to a tranny? I did the Tarus swap 2 years ago so I'm not afraid to put a reman tranny in this spring. Just wondering if it's worth a shot or if I'm going to further destroy my trans in the meantime
How does it shift when stopped from Neutral(Clutch pedal up) to (clutch pedal down)1st?
If its slow/hard to shift then there is air in the clutch hydraulics
A Hurst isn't going to fix it. The shifter stub is a very hard metal and isn't prone to wear unless you have over 300k on it, and you try to shift it like a race car.
