Icon4 3.0 V6 Tranny Trouble?

Ok, so my 03 2WD ranger (91k miles) seems to be having tranny trouble, but i could be wrong, and please correct me if i am...ok here it goes:

So I was cruising on the highway at about 80mph or so and had my cruise control set...I noticed it dropped speed about 5mph and was trying to regain it's speed and it like downshifted itself (its an automatic) and the tach. slammed up to 4-4.5K and started that high rev slamming transmission ****...what gives? Is it the transmission, the cruise control, or what? plz help!

X2. See if the O/D Light came on and was flashing. Would have only happened when the issue came about. After a restart it is gone. But just incase swing by local tranny shop to have the code scanned. Normal scanners don't work. I know AAMCO does a free check out on the transmission even if you don't get the work done.

Great, just what I needed to hear...no lights come on...and it only does this at pretty high speeds, it's fine otherwise. I haven't noticed any slipping while doing local driving, in fact it only seems to happen when:

A) There is great wind resistance (at high speeds & with cruise control only) --also when i turn over drive off it works fine
B) Going up a fairly steep hill (cruise cntrl only)-- also is solved when OD is off
C) Flooring it...pretty much self explanatory...haven't tried it with OD off

Could be a solenoid. I would take it in have it scanned and make sure you write down the codes they give you. Not to put another site out there but RPS and RANGERSTATION have alot of info on tranny codes. Another useful thing is google.

Solenoids are easy to change. Just drop the pan and change the solenoid. Good person to talk to is NICKSTERSVT on here... He's been helping me with my transmission.

Usually theirs does not work. Just take into a tranny shop and have it scanned. It takes the same amount of time.... Same port just can go deeper into the ECU...
