300 i6 in a 2008 4x4 ranger
Hey guys. I have a 4.0 5 speed 4x4 ranger with crazy miles on it and by no means am I pulling the motor yet, it’s been too good of a motor for me so far. Everyone I see that does motor swaps on a ranger goes 302, I don’t like being like everyone else lol. I’ve always loved the 300 i6 motor. They’re absolute tanks. I am just looking for some tips, suggestions, problems, Andy thing that may help me get this project done.

Grab your tape measure and start measuring lengths.

Will need some body mods as the length of an inline 6 is 3 cylinders longer than a V6 and 2 cylinders longer than a V8
The 2008 year of the Ranger also adds complications, Rangers went full digital in 2004, this means the computer and instrument cluster work together, and one will not work without the other, Ford did this to prevent Odometer tampering(swapping to lower mile clusters)
Also digital is "cooler", lol, full gauge needle swings with Key on, that IS cool
In any case it becomes another layer of work to get a working cluster without the factory 4.0l computer being used
