ok im looking into buying another ranger and there is a guy who has one but he said it goes into 4wdlow but the front hubs dont engauge. any ideas

 

here is exactly what it says "This is a 92 Ford Ranger 5spd 2.9L V6 4x4. It has a new clutch, exhaust, tires, and transfer case encoder motor (4x4 shift motor). Needs a few oil gaskets (valve cover and oil pan), a power steering leak fixed (hoses), new front hubs and could be other odds & ends. The transfer case works fine (it even goes into 4LOW), but the front hubs won't engage. Starts and runs and has a 2" receiver with insert."

 

Usually a vacuum problem or something like that I believe -- I can't remember how '92's work. Pretty common for the front end to fail to engage even when the t-case does on almost all autolock or pulse-vacuum hub systems on Rangers. Probably not a high cost fix.

 

the '92s have auto hubs without vacuum......when they get torque applied to them, then they engage......it is a common problem with the autos to go out.....

it is a cheap fix.......just get a set of Waren Manual hubs.....usually run about $130 and they are 100x stronger than the factory auto hubs

 

ok cuz the truck is in nice condidtion so i might go pick it up because i got rid of my other one and i only have my 94 2wd i really want a 4wd again

 

it is worth it.......swapping the auto hubs for the manuals are super easy....

 

well he wants 800 for the truck

i agree with maurice, for only 800 bucks its worth getting the truck and grabbing yourself a set of manual hubs

 

The only thing that worries me is the oil pan gasket, I've done one and its a pain in the *** I'll tell you that. valve cover gaskets are nothing. but the oil pan gasket I would have him lower the price for that.

 

cant i just put it up on a lift drain the oil and pull the oil pan off i should have enough room to pull it out?

 

well its a 4wd so you have to lift the engine, you have to lift it because the front axle runs under oil pan. I've done it, its not to bad but its a pain in the ***.
