5 speed transmission noise
I’ve posted on here before but forgot my login to my first account. I have a 2010 ford ranger fX4 4.0 only 139000 kms and runs great. Since I’ve bought the truck there’s been a noise from the transmission. I couldn’t really hear it when I bought the truck nor was I listening for it so took me a couple weeks to discover the sound. Brought it in to a transmission shop a few months later and spent 1800$ on syncros and pretty much every bearing in the trans and all other bearings outside the tranny itself (throw out, pilot) as well. Put a new clutch in as well while we were in there and just resurfaced the flywheel. So picked it up and everything was perfect and smooth but the noise was still there just a different pitch if that makes sense. So I did some looking around and came across a video on YouTube and the guy had the exact same sound. There were only a few comments but 1 said all rangers he’d been in had the noise and then a couple others said it had something to do with the shift fork and brand of clutch. So I didn’t mind much of the sound and took it as it might be a truck to truck basis thing maybe some make the sound and some don’t. But in the back of my mind I still wanted to figure it out. So some things about the noise is the “pitch“ of the sound changes when you move the gear shifter in different directions. I’ve found in 3rd gear is is the quietest and I think 2nd and 4th are the loudest. So don’t know what that would correlate to but I’m still determined to figure it out as it’s just loud enough while driving to be annoying where you have to have the air or radio on to cover it up. I’ll attach a video as well to listen. Thanks for reading this post if you read till the end😂
I’ll also add the shop said all the gears looked great and there were no metal shavings in the oil.

Don't have an answer
Manual transmissions are quieter with helical gears but still make noise
All the gears are turning all the time, if rear wheels are turning
If 3rd is quieter then the noise is most likely coming from 3rd, adding a load to it quiets it down
You could try synthetic ATF instead of Mercon ATF, some swear by it, others say they like the Mercon better
But check with transmission shop so you don't void any warranty by changing fluid type
You have an M5OD-R1 transmission, aka M5R1, it holds 2.8quarts of fluid

Okay thanks, this is the video where the guys has the EXACT same noise as I do so for now ill take your advice and check with the shop and continue driving it as maybe the like one of the comments said that this is just a sound in some ford rangers. Until further info the radio will continue to be blasted haha
