5R55E transmission compatibility

Quick question: My son has a 2005 4wd 4.0 engine Ranger, and the automatic transmission is done (5R55E). Can he use a transmission out of a 2010 4WD Ranger? We are having a heck of a time finding a replacement. He's 17 and a great kid, but we can't afford a reman or to have it rebuilt, but we do have the tools and ability to change the transmission.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum

Yes, a 2010 Ranger 4x4 would have a 4.0l SOHC engine, only V6 in 2010 Ranger, and 2.3l 4cyl wasn't an option in 4x4s
And only automatic model was the 5R55E

2001 to 2011 Ranger 4.0l SOHC(or Mazda B4000) 4x4, 5R55E would work, if the 2010 doesn't work out
2001 and up 5R55E has the added ISS and OSS sensors needed by the 2001-2011 Ranger computers
Must be a 4x4 automatic
Must be from a 4.0l SOHC engine
