7.5 limited slip options
7.5 limited slip options
I have a 2004 2.3 2wd Ranger. It will soon go to a beach house where it will never see a paved road or 25 mph ever again. I would like to give it a 4.10 (or 4.11?) and a limited slip differential. I am looking for what new limited slip differentials and gear sets people have had good experiences with in their 7.5 diffs. I think I'd rather just swap in some new components than hunt around for a used rear axle that fits what I want.
There are sets on ebay that are about $560 with a Yukon Duragrip differential and Motive ring and pinion. Does anyone have experience with these or know if they are any good?
Also, for a 2.3 engine, 150,000 miles, that will go months not being used and never see high revs or high torque, is there any benefit to going 10w30 over the 5w20 it calls for?
Thanks

Limited slip 4:10 not cheap to have installed. If you have never done this pay someone that knows what they're doing there critical clearances that MUST be checked.

Yes, its 4.10 for Fords
Yes, it does take some good tools and some skill to setup/shim a ring and pinion in a differential, but loads of videos out there
You could try car-part.com
For used axles, you can use a 1993 to 2009 Ranger or Mazda B-series rear axle, 7.5" or 8.8" doesn't matter, these just bolt in, so wrench work, and a little muscle, lol
7.5" or 8.8" 4.10, L/S(trac-lok) were not at all uncommon, many Ranger/Mazda 4x4s came standard with 4.10 L/S in the rear, in 2WD L/S was always an option
There is no difference between 7.5" and 8.8" rear axle in Rangers, same drive shaft mount, spring and shock mounts, use new U-bolts, always, they are cheap

I have the tools/machinery for the job; that wont be a problem. I can't tell on car-parts.com if an axle is limited slip or not and I like the idea of a new diff anyway. Does anyone have experience with the Yukon limited slip or motive gears? any advice on other brands? Thanks everybody
Make SURE you have a working SPARE key, before sending it to live in the bush
You can clone these PATS keys, well locksmith can, he can cut a blank PATS key to match lock, and then "read" its tag number, then "write" that same number to the blank PATS key, so as far as PATS is concerned they are the same key
You can even have 2 clones made at that time
This is cheaper than having a new PATS keys added to the vehicles computer
Thats odd about car-part.com
I found several 4.10 "locking" rear axles in my area, you can't select "locking" in the search, just 4.10, but the wrecking yards will say if its "locking" type, and charge accordingly, lol
And no, I have only used Ford L/S, so can't say what other locker would be a good choice
