I just had my 2007 Ranger 3.0L 5-speed manual re-geared from 3.73 to 4.10 gears. 7.5" limited slip. I just finished the 500 miles break in and Friday I removed the cover and let it drain overnight, cleaned and sealed the cover Saturday and filled it Sunday. The install went great, attached photo showing the gear mesh pattern.
The differential took two quarts when everything I'm reading says it takes 2.5 quarts. I know it's not a big deal but is this normal?
Trailered my Side X Side today 40 miles each way. When I got home I checked the differential temp and it was at 225 degrees, I was pulling a long mountain grade on the way home.
Generally, pulling a trailer would put temp over 200deg, 225-250 wouldn't upset me, over 250deg if outside temp was under 80deg might give me some concern

It was 60 that day. I'll stop worrying I just want to make sure it's durable. I'm going to tow from Arizona to Montana this summer and between the trailer and the Arctic Cat Wildcat
it's just over 2000 lbs. so I'm at the limit.
If you've changed to bigger tires and have 3.73 gears I highly recommend changing to 4.10 gears the difference is substantial. I put the 30" tires on right after I bought the truck and just now re-geared, I should have done this way back then.
