96 trans in an 87 body
96 trans in an 87 body
Help! My 1987 Ranger ate its automatic this morning, and I need this truck for work. I've found a 1996 5spd for very cheap, and can do the install myself. I just need to know if it will fit.
Fords 5-speed automatic can't be used with 1987 computer, but I don't think that is what you are asking, if so then NO it won't work
1988 and up Rangers used the M5OD-R1(M5R1) 5-speed manual transmission, it does not have a detachable bell housing, so each M5R1 only matches ONE engine, 2.3l, 3.0l, and 4.0l
You could have a 2.3l in your 1987 Ranger, if so then a 1996 2.3l M5R1 will bolt to it
Or you could have a 2.9l V6, fortunately the 4.0l and 2.9l use the same block, so 1996 4.0l M5R1 can be used on your 1987 2.9l
Yes, it fits, but you will need the drive shaft for the M5R1 and from a regular cab or extended cab whichever you have
I think you need to move the trans mount as well
You need the Block plate from the 4.0l and the flywheel(1990-1996)
Also the starter motor
And of course add the clutch/brake assembly from a 1983 to 1988 Ranger
You use the Clutch parts for a 4.0l
2WD and 4x4 matters as well, any transmission is made as a 2WD or a 4WD, there is no simple conversion between the two, so transmission must also match 2WD or 4WD
