brake ? need advice fast

Im doing my front brakes right now and I had a question...duh. I am thinking of removing the cover plate on the back side of the rotors. We do this to all the big rigs at work but I want to know has anyone done this to there rangers. I dont see a need for them but also am unsure. It seems like it would be easier to get dirt and grim off the back side of the rotor

Yeah, i've had mine off for that last ~500 miles or so. No problems. I'd think the main reason for it is to keep water from splashing up onto the rotor, possible affecting braking. Also, probably for you off-road guys to keep mud/dirt/debris from flying onto the rotors. But you might as well keep them on, the factory put them there for a reason....
