4cyl Rangers didn't have PATS until late 2001, so not an issue for you
Since 1890's the 50/50 test has been used when ever you have a crank but no start condition, yes 1890's, on the first gasoline engines
Spray fuel into the engine, gasoline, ether, carb cleaner, ect..........as long as it burns real good you can use if for 50/50 test, lol
Then try to start engine
If it fires up then spark is OK, you have a fuel delivery issue
If it doesn't fire then you have a spark issue(or compression)
50/50 INSTANT results, and very very easy to do
Fuel pressure don't matter, spark testers don't work, 50/50 test does
So don't waste time
Couple of things to look for
Does the CEL(check engine light) come on with Key ON, that means Computer is booting up, no CEL no computer
And when you turn the key to START the CEL should go OFF, that means Crank Sensor is working
Crank sensor is THE ONLY SENSOR that can cause a no start, other sensor failing will cause rough running but never a No Start
So CEL going off when cranking means Crank sensor is working like it should
Fuel pump
It runs for 2 seconds with key ON, but only 2 seconds, repeat key off and then ON as much as you want to make sure you HEAR the fuel pump run, its a HUMMMMM from behind cab, not quiet at all, turn radio down, if its working to WILL hear it run for 2 seconds
Anyway do 50/50 test and report results

CEL comes ON when key is turn on
Goes OFF when cranking
If CEL doesn't come on with key on then computer is not on, check fuses 11 and 19 in cab fuse box, and fuse 8 in engine fuse box
Pull out and look at PCM Relay, see if there are signs of corrosion
This is all assuming no CEL with key on
You can get your owners manual here: https://www.ranger-forums.com/genera...1-models-3747/
It will have fuse and relay diagrams, 4cyl and V6 models can have different layouts so make sure you are looking at the right one
