drive shaft center bearing spacers????

Hiya all,
I need a little info here. My nephew put a new center bearing on my drive shaft, 1994 ranger, 3.0, auto trans, 2 wheel drive, two piece shaft. I think there was supposed to be spacers put in when he bolted it down but he says it doesn't need them and it didn't have any in when we pulled the shaft. Are there differant types of center bearings where one may need them and one may not. The shaft is at an angle from the trans to the center bearing and then straight from there to the rear end. I would think the shaft should be straight from the trans to the rear end but since i'm disabled and haven't wrenched on anything in lots of years i'm not sure anymore, 62 with a taste of "oldtimers" comin on i think. Can anyone tell me if this year vehicle needs the spacers. I seem to get a little shutter when i start from a stop but it smooths out when i get up a little speed. The center bearing had about an inch of rubber below the bolt down surface of the bearing. Anyhows i'd sure appreciate any info y'all can send my way. All i get from the local shops is "bring it in and we'll fix it for ya". Can't afford a shop so will have to work it out myself.

its called a Mid shift bearing. you can replace it with a new one from the auto store. or remove that cross member and run a newer 1-piece driveshaft

Or more commonly referred to as a carrier bearing.
And no , there is no spacer between the bearing housing and the mount.
The shaft angles the way it does because of the crossmember. It is in the way of letting the shaft run a straight line from the transmission to the differential.


The shudder is most likely due to a bad / frozen u-joint.

it will shudder quite bad if that bearing is hosed
