drive side front smell after 4x4 use

i got a 98 3.0 5 speed ranger. got manul lockers for hubs. got a great deal of snow and had to drive. felt safer using 4x4 good 2 inches of slush and snow on the road so i left it in 4x4 hi. i did about 25 40mph the whole trip prob about a 10 mile drive. when i got out i noticed a smell almost smelt like a wheel bearing. was cold and snowing so didnt investigate no more then it was just driver side. 4x4 works fine. any ideas. wheel bearing was replaced not to long ago

I can't remember are the 4x4s packed in bearings or is it a hub assembly with the bering sealed inside?

My idea was might not have enough grease but if its sealed i doubt thats it. Any grease fittings for them?

only grease fitting is on the control arm i think its called or bottom a arm something like that. i know its bad to keep them manual hubs locked in but i was using them and it was safer then 2wd. is there anything on that side that different then the other. any idea where i can start lookin at when it gets warmer lol
