Engine swap

I recently purchased a 2001 ranger. automatic 4wd. I was wondering what engine swap is the best for 4wd. I plan on making a street legal prerunner so i don't want anything ridiculous, but still fast. Also wondering if a manual swap with the motor would work better.

Want fast? 302, 331, 347, or put a S/C on your 4.0. The last 3 will cost you a lot more than the first.
Want more torque? 4BT Cummins

Even more torque? 6BT Cummins just get rid of the firewall, or elongate the front clip
