Engine swap regear

I have a 2002 Ranger with a leveling kit and 31.5”x11” or 265,75,16 size tires with a 4.10 rear end and it’s a 4x4. I have a 450whp 5.0 v8 out of a 1986 fox body and was wondering if I should regear the truck also would like to know what parts I will need to swap the 5.0.

Welcome to the forum

You, of course, would have to re-gear BOTH front and rear, but I would do the engine swap first, to see what YOU think
The 4.10 will give you quicker off the line power but higher RPMs at highway speeds in OD
So its more about what YOU want as the end result

The 4.10 axle ratio was for the stock 29" tires so with 31.5" tires its actually at the 3.73 ratio now

The 302/5.0l fits in Rangers because its a narrow engine, 19" wide
But from a mustang it may have a tall intake and longer nose water pump and accessories
The Explorer 5.0l swap was better because it has the lower intake and shorter water pump and brackets for accessories
So you may need to get the intake and brackets from explorer
You are they we are not so you just need to measure the length and height to determine what YOU need

You need a 5.0l 4x4 transmission and transfer case, Rangers won't work, also front and rear drive shafts

Well I have read that with an adapter plate the oem Ranger tranny will bolt up to the 5.0 but I have only seen 2wd rangers swapped with the 5.0 so not sure if I would have clearance problems with the transfer case and front drive components.

With an adapter plate, you can bolt any transmission to any engine.

You can bolt a 2.3 out of a Pinto to an 18 speed out of a Kenworth with an adapter plate.

As to your original question, 4:10 gears and 31.5 tires would be a good combination.
