exploders are the easiest to do. you need u bolts from a 31 spline though because your u bolts wont be large enough.

You have to move the shock mounts too, that requires welding.

Ahh as much as id like to do that right now i think id only be able to just put in the L/S to my current axle... So how do i go abouts instal in current axle. remove axle shafts i know. those are just held in by clips right? and then does the L/S just bolt on to the ring assy. or do i have to remove the ring as well

The carrier will have to come out. The ring gear will have to come off and go on the new carrier. It will have to be re-shimmed and the gears will have to be set up all over again.

Ford Racing M-4204-F288 - Ford Racing Traction-Lok Differentials - Overview - SummitRacing.com

I put this one in mine. I love it! way cheaper than the Eaton and everything I've read about it is they are pretty good. I went ahead and replaced all the bearings and seals as long as the rear end was apart, so the rear end had to be re set. I am not sure if you are re using bearings if it will still have to have the lash adjusted again.. Just my .02

Keep yours eyes open for a LS unit on ebay. I see them a few times a month starting a $0.01. A ford 8.8 is a ford 8.8, just get the right spline count and you're good. Only thing to check for is that the carrier is made to accept the tone ring for the axle speed sensor. Other than that, it doesn't matter what the differential came out of.
