PVH Hub Fix

Heres a way to fix you PVH Hubs without permanently locking the front up. Call it a "Ghetto Manual Hub" if you will.

First:
- Disconnect and plug vacuum lines from each hub

- Unscrew outer cap off each hub

- Pop out metal screen

- Clip out plastic star, leaving thumb-sized hole

- Reassemble (do not break metal tab)

To lock the hub, put your finger in the hole and press the internals all the way in and release, thus locking the hubs up. To unlock the hubs, simply press the internals until you feel or hear a soft click and your hubs should be released. If you are concerned about mud/water/sand/whatever getting into the hub, dont worry about it, there is a rubber seal in there and since there is no vacuum to suck stuff in you should be fine!

PVH Hubs are on 98-2000 1/2 Model Year Rangers, and yes it works. Ive seen the remove the metal U clip from the white plastic piece fix and didnt like it, so i did some snooping.

I'm not too sure about what he is saying, but it might work.

I have a 99 ranger with the PVH hubs. Mine don't lock by vacum anymore. I disconnected the vacum switch, where the line comes from the engine into the switch then goes out to the wheels.

I now lock the hubs by pulling them off and pushing in the plastic internals until I hear them click. Then put them back on. I unlock them the same way.

The best part is, that you don't even have to remove the wheels. All you remove are the center caps from the front wheels.

Works like a charm. I've been doing this for about a year and a half now, and no problems. Plus you don't get the added drag from the front drivetrain always turning.

There is a how-to in the How-To Forum already on this, and its more discriptive and it even has pictures. Good intentions though. Also, those sound like pain in the butt manual hubs....which would be downsizing from our auto or locked hubs.
