Yep, same ratio. And aren't the fronts dana 35's on the newer Rangers? And then Dana 28's on the ttb's?

Is that correct?

This might be a dumb question but I'm guessing you have to replace the whole front axle not just change out the gears?

Thanks Freddie.

Another question, Can I do that to the rear also or do I have to get a complete rear axle?

You can just change the rear gears also but if you do who is gonna get them set up right for ya?

It might be easier since you can do it yourself if you just buy the rearend with the gears you want in it. I waited probably 6 months until I found exactly what I wanted. I got a 8.8 4.10 L/S for only $115.

Wow was that a private seller or junkyard?

Private seller. I found a couple at the junkyard but the rear ends looked to sketchy. Junkyard only want like $80 for a rear end.

I cant really find a good price at junkyards.....On car parts.com they all say like $400 bucks for a rear end. Friday im going to look at a 8.8" 4.10 for $275. If its limited slip and in good condition I may snag it.

This might be a noob question but, are Explorer axles the same width as a Ranger axle?

I found 4.10 axles at a junkyard for $400 with L/S So I'm probably going to take this deal. they have 70,000 miles on them to.

Bringing this back up cause I have another question. If I swap the axle out of the back myself could I just disconnect the front drive shaft and drive it with different gears in the front to a place that can swap the front for me? I figure I could do the back, but the front seems a little tricky.

You would be okay as long as 4wd isn't engaged and the hubs aren't locked in.

the front is a piece of cake, i think easier because you dont deal with brakelines

remove wheels
remove calipers
disconnect upper ball joints
disconnect lower ball joints
remove knuckle with cv axle still attached to it, you have to seperate them from the axle with a soft punch and a hammer
remove front driveshaft
remove 3 bolts holding the axle in
remove axle
now read from the bottom ^^ to reinstall
