is limited slip common

OK so I have a 99 Ford Ranger with the 4.0 and I have fell in love with the truck! The other day I was backing into my friends side drive way and you have to drive over the side walk when my front tires hit I spun the back tires a little and I noticed that there was 2 marks (like limited slip) but I didn't think they came stock with limited slip?? I didn't buy the truck new so I'm not sure if someone did this before I bought the truck or if it is something that is stock?

Depending on the trim level of your truck, it was an available option on higer trim levels but not available on base models.

The small doors are not "legally" considered doors... They are extensions to the other doors..( at least that's how my insurance idiot explained it).. It is a 2 door.

If it was like the sporttrack and actually had handles etc...they would be written up as 4 doors..

I know sounds weird.. but the world has to catch up to the technology.

OK but the Vin reader on this site says there is a 4 door ? or is that more than just the ranger Vin codes?

on the drivers door theres a sticker. under "Axle" will be a code. if it a R in front of a number, its LS. if theres 2 numbers its an open.

There is a tag on one of the Dff covr Bolts, it has all of the info on what is there, IF it is OEM.

I will have to look at mine but it tells me it is an 8.8, L/S, with 4.10 gears.
Your's, if there will do the same.

It's probably NOT but the axle code is on the sticker in the door jamb. For example, mine is 97 which means its an open 4.10 8.8

OK I looked at the door code and it says its a 95 but I have spun the tires in dirt and on the pavement and still getting 2 tracks like it was limited slip and I have never seen a open rear end do that !

Sometimes, an open diff. will spin both tires. Mine does it at times, and it's even done it when I've done burnouts. The second I run the truck through mud and come close to getting stuck, though, it only spins one tire. :-/

i have an auto, with an open diff... I have the one wheel peel all day long in D. Put it into R, and both always grab... figure that one out.

Mine came stock with a 3.73 Limited slip.
but i've since swapped in a 4.10 open. If you take a corner quick enough and tight enough, one will slip real slight.
