I recently bought a 86 ranger. It is lifted 4" w/ 2" body. Has 33" tires. I was running the price list of swaping to a 302 and the money is just not there right now. It is going to be mostly used on the street and once a year up in the mountains for a hunting truck. It will be on the dirt road with mud and snow. I have decided to go witht he 2.9l engin (found for $1700 w/ 7 year 70,000 mile warranty). I want to swap the gear ratio in the back for more torque though. What have people seen or what would you recomend? I am going to keep the 33's on there. Not looking for speed. I also plan on swapping the front axle. I read that a 95 Explorer is a D35. Is that a good swap? My budget is $3000 and under (if able). Found a shop that will do the gear swap for any size for $500. Thanks for your help in advance.
