LS 8.8 28 spline Differential
LS 8.8 28 spline Differential
I am thinking about swapping out my open 8.8 28 spline diff. with a LS unit. Will I need any other parts besides the differential? I can interchange my gears and stuff right? Also is there anything I need to look for when buying from someone who took there LS out? I found a brand new differential on ford parts, described as "DIFFERENTIAL ASSY, Ranger, w/Locking Differential, 8.8" Ring Gear, w/o FX4 Off Road Pkg." I assume that is the LS unit for the 28 spline Rangers, well it costs $364 brand new, I really hate to pay that much.
Yea.. I was just on Ebay and found a whole brand new axle, disc brakes, 8.8, Ford traction lock, never installed on a vehicle. The guy doesn't know what spline it is and I don't know how much work would be required to fit it to my Ranger. It is about 20 minutes away from my house too!! So shipping would be 0!

Do you have to weld the perches for the shocks on top of the axle? Is that all that is necassary to swap it in or is it more too it? Will the stock brake lines hook right up to the disk? Anything else I should know before I look into this?
you will have to get yourself a spring flip kit, and then get the shock tabs and have them welded on to the tube in the correct location......
probably wouldn't be a bad idea while the shock perches are being welded on to have the flip kit welded on.....
