Manual shift transfer case question.

What else is involved in installing a manual transfer case in a truck that has an electric. Obviously I have to cut the floor panel for the shifter. But what about the electronics? Will the wiring plug in? Do I have to change the ecu? What?

My guess is that it would be relatively plug-and-play. If you go with another 1354 anyways. The only electronics on the manual one is the 4wd indicator light I think. Don't quote me on it though. Sorry.

i don't think the manual t-cases even have that.....

it would be a plug and play, however you might need a computer from a manual t-case ranger....

and as far as the hole in the floor, there is a pan that bolts down there to cover the hole in the cab.....replace that cover with one from a manual t-case truck and wa-la you have it....

I don't plan on rock crawling so I don't see a need for an Atlas II or anything stronger.

Thanx guys.

So I found a t-case here: http://www.drivetrain.com/transferca...rd.html#Ranger

Do the specs sound right? Manual shift, rear circular flange, front cup yoke w/o speedo hole, w/p sensor hole

The FX4 manual transfer case does have the 4WD light indicators. They are not absolutely needed but it helps to let you know what position it is in.

The difference is in how they're wired. Rangers with the electric t-case take the 4WD indicator grounds from the 4x4 Control Module in the dash. The 2002/3 trucks with the manual case used the 4x4 Mode Switch in the transfer case to provide the grounds. It would be very easy to rewire the lamp grounds to work with the manual case. Just get the matching connector for the manual 4x4 Mode Switch and run two wires to the instrument cluster in place of the ones that go to the 4x4 Module.
