no power over 3000 rpm

Every couple of weeks I'll be driving along and when I go to accelerate above 3k rpm I have loss of power and sputtering. When I get vehicle off road engine idles fine then when I pull off and accelerate it will happen again. Then like nothing happened it drives drives fine after a few attempts.I'm thinking cam synchronizer after reading other posts online (but no chirp or squeaking noise). Cam position sensor makes more sense to me. If someone could point me in the right direction or other things to check I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
Cheers!

Change fuel filter first
You should get CEL(check engine light) if cam sensor is intermittent or not in sync with crank sensor
Manual or automatic?
There is a neutral switch(DTR) on an automatic, driver side, on shift rod
If it tells computer you are in N and not D then RPMs are limited to 3,000
So if shifter feels loose or DTR is loose, then that could cause your symptom

Hey Ron
Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, I have an automatic. Crawled under this morning and took a look at the shift rod which is tight and grommet is still in place. Makes sense this could be the problem because a couple times this happened was right after initially pulling off. Another time it was after driving through a large puddle. Any other advice or thoughts on changing the dtr? Thanks as always for your help.
