A real quick Q
A real quick Q
I have a 1994 Ranger with a 2.3, a manual tranny and an extended cab and am considering trading it in for a 1998 ranger with a 2.3, a manual and an extended cab.
My Q: do they use the same tranny? I am considering stripping my 1994 before donating it to Crazy Rays.
Thanks!!
Chuck

1998 Ranger will have a 2.5l 4cyl, 1997 was last year of the 2.3l SOHC Lima engine
But yes, 1983 to 2000 2.3l or 2.5l use the same block so the transmissions are interchangeable.
A 2.5l SOHC Lima engine is a Stroked 2.3l, so only difference is the crank shaft and connecting rods, they used the same pistons, heads and block.
In mid-2001 Rangers started to get the 2.3l DOHC Duratec engine, no relation to the Lima, and trans would not be swapable.

Just as a heads up, the manual trans will be an M5OD-R1 and it will have 3 rubber plugs on the back of the shifter housing, these will leak when they get old and hardened.
