SAS a 2wd?

Just curious, how hard would it be to SAS my 99 2wd? I have really been thinking about it lately. I know you might say just buy a 4x4 but to me that is just not fun. I plan on taking welding classes this summer break. I dont have to really worry though about the real major welding because my grandpa can do it since he was a welder for 50 years. I just honestly want your guys opinions on it. I have been doing alot of research on here lately on what people have been doing.

If I did do it, it would not be this summer but the next won probably. But, I would like to start getting the parts that I want together so I can be ready. I do not want to go full length axles and would like to stick to something that is close to the width of an 8.8 or so. What kind of transfer case? I want manual case and a manual trans. Just wondering, I can't reuse my trans that I have now can I? Steering components?

Do you just want 4x4 and 32s or something or do you want to end up running like 37s?

I dont really know. I mean I dont just want to lets say get an IFS front in and put it in. That takes all of the fun out of it and I want something tuff. If I did it I would probably at least run 33's or 35's but that would be about it.

It would be easier to put in a solid axle in your truck instead of IFS anyway.

Thats what I figured. Would you suggest coil or leaf? I really like leaf over coil.

coil sprung 2wd are hard to do SAS on because of the weird frame section you guys have.

not to mention your 4 cyl wouldn't be very happy running 33's and up without some SERIOUS gearing

I guess you could in theory run a divorced t case if you want to re-use your original trans.

As for the front axle, you could get a Waggy 44, or if your not going all that big (33's and below) there is a possibility for a D30, and the jeep guys are usually giving them away.

You will have to gear the **** out of it if you want it to perform at all off-road. Look into dual t-cases, and some really low gears.

It is completely possible, you have to ask yourself if it is worth doing.

Yeah, we either have to plate the frame or just tube frame it.

I've seen that funky *** coil bucket cut out, and plated all around. Then built onto those new bucket replacements would be a shock tower.

that is what i was thinking.

only thing i wonder is if a Jeep XJ coil will fit in that pocket. if it did then run a D44 with the Long arm setup.

Im pretty confident that it could handle a 38" tire. 034x4 had a built waggy 44 and 38s. 2002fx4 has a semi built dana 44 from a waggy with 38x15.50's and is doing ok. anything bigger, you should get a d60 as the 44 prob wont last long.

But it also (a lot) depends on the type of wheeling you do.

There are guys here with the D44 in boobicons running 38 and 39.5" IROKS on the D44s with chromo shafts and a few of them really beat on their trucks.

well if i did this id be the first one to test and see if our 2wd ranger coil buckets will work with the d44 and i do just muddin with some flexing threw washouts kinda like my avatar but im never hard on my rangers i just give it enough gas to get threw whatever... i just wana run 38's with just a suspension lift im still not diggin the body lifts yet but i have a 3.0 so itd have issues with 38's without a dout so id probly upgrade to a 302 after i got the suspension done id have to run it as a 2wd till i got the 302 in their an get a custom from drive shaft made by clutch products and get the d44 gears to 4.56's to match the rear

last question are the d44's 5on4.5 bolt pattern?
